What is Game On Recycling?
Game On Recycling a national program that collects sporting equipment and aims to reduce landfill by either donating or recycling the items collected.
Each piece of equipment that is recycled goes to saving the planet and our environment. When it comes to sustainability, we have a great opportunity to change the game and create a better future.
Why did we create Game On Recycling?
Where does old sporting equipment go when we’ve finished playing with them? Unfortunately, most currently end up in landfills.
We pride ourselves on being a sporting nation. Over 15 million Australians participate in sport every year. As a result of all this activity, large volumes of sporting equipment are required each year to support our sporting passions, including an estimated:
- 10 million tennis balls
- 2 million basketballs
- 1000t of snow sports gear
Unfortunately, these unloved, lonely and unwanted items are discarded into landfills when they are no longer needed. There they cause problems with our ecosystems and the bio-diversity that surrounds them.
Don’t these items that have given us so much joy and happiness deserve a better fate? Don’t they deserve the opportunity to contribute positively to the world and our lives?
That’s why we need a new solution that will rescue these items from a dreadful fate and put them to better use for the sake of the planet and our health.
How Game On Recycling works:
Over 500 Collection sites Across Australia are collecting old and unwanted sporting equipment. Items collected will be sent to processing facilities across Australia to be sorted and separated into:
- Items that can be reused and donated to charity organisations, thereby extending the life of the product; or
- Items that have well and truly come to the end of their life and need to be recycled.
Recycled items will be turned into useful items such as Anti-Fatigue matting, Flooring, Soft Fall mats & underlay. We are always endeavouring to find new and exciting ways to use this material where possible!
